How to sync a segment as an audience on Meta, Google or TikTok
When you turn a Nevent segment into a custom audience, your Meta, Google or TikTok ads stop targeting strangers: you show them to people who already know your event because they already bought or interacted with you before.
In this guide you’ll activate that sync for a segment you’ve already created. It will take about 5 minutes.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You need two things:
- A segment already created. If you don’t have one yet, first follow the guide create your first segment.
- The ad account connected for the platform you want to sync with (Meta Ads, Google Ads or TikTok Ads). You’ll check and connect it in step 1.
Step 1: Check which ad platforms you have connected
Section titled “Step 1: Check which ad platforms you have connected”In the side menu, go to Settings and click Paid Ads.
You’ll see one card per platform. The one that already has your account linked shows the Connected state, with the account name and the date of the last sync. The ones not yet linked show Not connected and a Connect button.
If the platform you want to use already shows as Connected, skip straight to step 2. If not, click Connect and follow that platform’s authorization process before continuing.
Step 2: Open the segment you want to turn into an audience
Section titled “Step 2: Open the segment you want to turn into an audience”In the side menu, go to Audience → Segments and click the segment you want to use for your ads.
At the top of the segment screen you’ll see a block called Activate as an advertising audience, with a short description of what it does.
Step 3: Expand the block and choose the platform
Section titled “Step 3: Expand the block and choose the platform”Click the Activate as an advertising audience block to expand it. Three cards open, one per platform: Meta Ads, TikTok Ads and Google Ads.
Each card shows its own technical name for this feature: Meta and TikTok call it Custom Audience; Google calls it Customer Match. It’s the same idea across all three, under the name each platform uses.
Depending on that card’s state, you’ll see a different button:
- If the platform is connected, you’ll see the Sync button. Click it to send your segment as an audience.
- If the platform isn’t connected, you’ll see Connect in Settings, which takes you back to the step 1 screen.
Result
Section titled “Result”After clicking Sync, that platform’s card reflects the result of the send. It can show Connected if everything went well, or Error with a Retry button if something failed, as in this example captured on a demo tenant.
You now know how to activate a segment as a custom audience. You can now go into Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads or TikTok Ads Manager, create a campaign and choose that audience as its target, or ask the platform to generate a lookalike audience from it.
