Configure your custom sending domain

In this guide you’ll set up a custom domain in Nevent so your campaign emails arrive from your own domain, for example email.yourfestival.com, instead of Nevent’s shared domain.

This improves deliverability (more emails reach the inbox instead of spam) and reinforces your brand’s image with your contacts.

The wizard takes about 3 minutes. DNS verification can take anywhere from a few hours to 72 hours, depending on your domain provider.

You need two things:

  • To know your root domain, for example yourfestival.com. It’s the same one you use for your website.
  • Access to your domain provider’s DNS panel (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, your hosting provider’s…). That’s where you’ll create the records Nevent gives you at the end of the wizard. If you don’t have that access, ask whoever manages your website to do it for you.

Step 1: Access Settings and open Custom domain

Section titled “Step 1: Access Settings and open Custom domain”

In the side menu, scroll down to the bottom and click Settings (the last item in the menu, with the gear icon).

Inside Settings, find the Workspace group in the left-hand secondary menu. Click Custom domain.

The custom domain module’s welcome screen opens. Read the three benefits if you want more context, then click Start setup.

The wizard opens the first step. Here you enter your organization’s main domain.

Type your root domain in the field, without www or https://. For example: yourfestival.com.

Once the field has a valid value, the Next button activates. Click it to continue.

In the second step, you define the subdomain Nevent will use to send your emails.

By default, the field already suggests email. This is what we recommend: your campaigns’ sender will be email.yourfestival.com. You can change it to marketing, news or another prefix you prefer, though email is the most common choice.

To the right of the field you can see how the full subdomain will look: email.demofest.com in the example.

Click Next once you’re happy with it.

The third step shows a summary of what you’re about to configure:

  • Root domain: the domain you entered in step 2.
  • Sending subdomain: the full subdomain your campaigns will use.

Review that both values are correct. If you spot an error, click Back to go back and fix it.

Once everything looks right, click Set up domain so Nevent generates the DNS records.

Step 5: Create the DNS records with your provider

Section titled “Step 5: Create the DNS records with your provider”

After confirming, Nevent shows the DNS records screen. Here you have all the values you need to copy and paste into your domain provider’s panel.

You’ll see between five and six records grouped into four sections:

Record typeWhat it’s for
DKIM (one, two or three CNAME-type records)A digital signature that proves the email was sent by you and not a third party
SPF (a TXT-type record)A list of servers authorized to send on behalf of your domain
MAIL FROM (an MX-type record)The technical bounce address; improves domain reputation
DMARC (a TXT-type record)A policy telling email providers what to do if an email fails SPF or DKIM

For each record, copy the Name, Type and Value fields using the copy icon next to each one. Then go to your domain provider’s DNS panel and create each record with those values.

Once you’ve created every record with your domain provider, go back to Nevent and click the Verify status button.

Nevent checks whether the records are already visible on the internet. Depending on your provider, propagation can take anywhere from a few minutes to 72 hours. If any record shows as “Pending” when you check, wait a few hours and try again.

Once every record is verified, your custom domain will become active and your next email campaigns will send from email.yourfestival.com.

Your custom domain is now set up in Nevent. From now on, your contacts will see your own domain as the sender in their inboxes, which improves the delivery rate and reinforces trust in your communications.
