How to check the bounces on your campaigns

This guide explains what a bounce is, how to see them in the report of a sent campaign, and why it’s worth reviewing them. About 3 minutes.

You need at least one campaign in Sent status. Follow How to create your first campaign first if you haven’t launched one yet.

In the side menu, click My campaigns, then the name of a sent campaign.

Inside the report, click Deliverability in the left-hand menu.

This section shows five cards with the send’s delivery data.

The data you’ll see is:

  • Sent: emails Nevent attempted to deliver.
  • Delivered: the ones the recipient’s server accepted. A “delivered” email is not a guarantee it reached the inbox: it may have ended up in the spam folder.
  • Delivery rate: the percentage of sent emails that arrived correctly.
  • Soft bounces: failed deliveries due to a temporary problem, such as a full inbox or a server momentarily down. Nevent may retry the send.
  • Hard bounces: failed deliveries due to a permanent problem, such as an email address that doesn’t exist. Nevent automatically flags these addresses so it doesn’t send to them again.

Every hard bounce you accumulate damages your reputation as a sender. If your hard bounce percentage rises above 2%, email servers start treating you as an unreliable source, making it harder for your future campaigns to get through, even to valid contacts.

The best way to keep bounces low is to keep your list clean: regularly remove contacts who’ve had several undelivered sends in a row.

If you spot hard bounces in the report:

  1. Click View next to “Hard bounces” to see the list of addresses.
  2. Check whether they’re incorrect addresses or domains that no longer exist.
  3. Nevent already excludes them automatically from future sends, but it’s good practice to also clean up your contact database.
