Your Event's Music Profile

In this guide you’ll set up an event’s music profile in Nevent. In a few minutes you’ll have your lineup’s genres and artists registered, and your audience will be ready to segment by musical taste. About 5 minutes.

You need at least one event created in Nevent. The music profile works the same regardless of the event’s status: you can set it up before tickets go on sale or once you already have hundreds of attendees.

In the side menu, click Experiences, inside the “Content” block.

Your event list opens. Click the name of the event you want to configure.

When you enter the event, the left side menu changes and shows that event’s sections: Analytics, Description, Celebration, Tickets, Supplements, Sponsors, Attendees, Add-ons, Campaigns, Reassignment, and Music profile.

Click Music profile at the bottom of that menu.

If the event doesn’t have any artist or genre configured yet, you’ll see the welcome screen with the + Add artists button.

Step 3: Get to know the music profile form

Section titled “Step 3: Get to know the music profile form”

Click + Add artists. The form unfolds into three blocks:

  • Artists: the event’s lineup. Each artist you add contributes their genres as automatic suggestions and becomes available as a segmentation criterion in its own right.
  • Genres: Nevent’s official music vocabulary. Genres from the vocabulary are comparable across events, meaning you can cross-reference audiences from different festivals by musical taste.
  • Genre tags: if your genre isn’t in the standard vocabulary, type it here and it can also be segmented. Only your organization will see it.

In the right-hand side panel you’ll see the audience summary and the Create segment button with the criteria that will activate once the profile is complete.

In the Artists search box, type the name of an artist or DJ from the lineup.

Nevent searches MusicBrainz, a global music database. If the artist appears, you’ll see their name, country of origin, and the MusicBrainz tag. Click + Add.

If the artist isn’t in that database (a local DJ, an emerging band), use the Create manually link to add them with a free-form name.

In the Genres field, type the event’s music genre.

Nevent will show you the term from the official vocabulary along with the synonyms that map to that same genre: for example, “industrial techno,” “minimal techno,” and “acid techno” all map to Techno. This ensures that a fan tagged as an acid techno listener is included in your event’s Techno segment.

Click the term that matches your event’s sound.

If the genre you’re looking for doesn’t appear in the list, press Enter. It will be added as a genre tag: it segments the same way but is only visible to your organization, not in the shared vocabulary.

As soon as you add the first genre, Nevent updates the side panel. The segmentable audience for that genre appears, along with the Create segment button with the criteria already configured: “Musical genre of the attended event” and “Artist of the attended event.”

Saving is automatic: there’s no confirm button. Once you see “Saved a moment ago” in the top right, the changes are already live.

The music profile turns a list of attendees into an audience with identity. Every genre you add unlocks new decisions:

  • Lineup decisions: if most of your attendees have an affinity for techno and not reggaeton, the segment confirms it before you book.
  • Campaigns by musical taste: you can send the announcement of a new artist only to the fans who listen to that genre, without bothering the rest of your base.
  • Audiences for Meta and TikTok Ads: music segments can be used as audiences in your paid media campaigns, improving ad relevance.
  • Comparison across events: Nevent’s standard vocabulary lets you cross-reference the audience of different festivals in your account to spot fans who attend several.
