How to create your first campaign
In this guide you’ll go through the campaign creation wizard from start to finish. The process has 8 steps and you can complete it in under 10 minutes.
By the end you’ll have a campaign configured and ready to launch or save as a draft.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You need at least one email template already created in Nevent. If you don’t have one yet, go to Campaigns → Templates and create one before following this guide.
You also need at least one audience segment available. If you don’t have one, you can create one from Audience → Segments.
Step 1: Open the wizard
Section titled “Step 1: Open the wizard”From the home screen, click the + Create campaign button in the top-right corner.
You can also get there from the side menu: Campaigns → My campaigns → New campaign.
Step 2: Name your campaign
Section titled “Step 2: Name your campaign”The wizard opens on step 1, “Basic information”. Type a name that will help you identify the campaign later.
The left-hand panel shows all 8 steps of the process. As you move forward, each completed step gets a checkmark.
Type the name and click Next.
Step 3: Choose the channel
Section titled “Step 3: Choose the channel”In step 2, “Channel”, select where you want to send the campaign.
The available options depend on your setup. Email and push are usually active by default. SMS and WhatsApp require prior activation from Settings → Channels.
Select the channel you want to use and click Next.
Step 4: Choose the template
Section titled “Step 4: Choose the template”In step 3, “Content”, you’ll see the gallery of templates you’ve created. Each card shows the name, the last modified date and a thumbnail of the design.
Click the template you want to use for this campaign. The right-hand panel will show a full preview of the email.
Once you’re happy with your selection, click Next.
Step 5: Review the campaign type
Section titled “Step 5: Review the campaign type”Step 4, “Send type”, configures itself. Nevent detects the campaign type based on the content of the template you chose:
- Marketing campaign: for promotions, newsletters and commercial communications. It automatically includes an unsubscribe link and respects user preferences.
- Transactional campaign: for confirmations, reminders or important notifications.
If the type is correct, click Next.
Step 6: Define the audience
Section titled “Step 6: Define the audience”In step 5, “Audience”, choose the segment or segments that will receive this campaign.
Each segment shows how many users it has and how many recipients are estimated for the send. The difference between users and estimated recipients comes from people who have unsubscribed or whose email is marked as invalid.
Click the segment you want to use. The right-hand panel shows a summary of the selected audience.
You can select several segments if you want to combine audiences.
Once you’ve chosen the audience, click Next.
Step 7: Write the subject line
Section titled “Step 7: Write the subject line”Step 6, “Subject and UTMs”, is where you write the text your contacts will see in their inbox.
There are three main fields:
- Sender: you can use your account’s global settings or customise the name and email for this specific campaign.
- Subject: the main text of the email as it appears in the inbox. It’s required.
- Preview text: the secondary text that appears next to the subject in many email clients.
The top of the screen shows a live simulation of how your email will look in the inbox, updating in real time as you type.
Write the subject and, if you want, the preview text. Click Next when you’re done.
Step 8: Schedule the send
Section titled “Step 8: Schedule the send”In step 7, “Send scheduling”, you decide when the campaign will go out:
- Send now: the campaign goes out as soon as you confirm the launch.
- Schedule send: you choose a date and time for the automatic send.
Select the option you need and click Next.
